Manly Sea-Eagles Match-Fixing

The National Rugby League (NRL) is being investigated by Australian Police after it was alleged for Match-Fixing claims. The claims suggest certain Manly Sea-Eagles players were paid to throw two of the clubs’ matches in 2015.

The two games of concern involve the Sydney-North based team of Manly Sea-Eagles. The games were played last year against South Sydney Rabbitohs and Parramatta Eels.

According to the New South Wales Police, the investigation is still in the early stages. The organised crime squad is still in the phase of examining the information relating to the NRL match-fixing claims.

According to the Manly Sea-Eagles media, the police have not contacted the club for the claims, adding that they are disappointed by the club’s reputation been unfairly tarnished.

The latest reports into the claim suggest that the investigators are still yet to speak to the sources of the allegations.

The NRL chief executive, Todd Greenberg, said the possibility of match-fixing within the sport cuts to the core of the sporting code and its values. He further added that all necessary action will be taken in order to protect the integrity of the game.

In 2011, Canterbury Bulldogs player Ryan Tandy was banned for life after he was found guilty of match-fixing.
