The World Poker Tour (WPT) is a collection of international poker tournaments and is made up of different events. WPT began in the U.S. in 2002 and has been a strong international poker event ever since. The main event in WPT is the Five Diamond World Poker Classic which James Romero won this year (2016). Romero pocketed a cool $ 1,938 Million in the main event of WPT 2016. The main event attracts some of the best poker players from around the world to test their tenacity and expertise in the game.
Romero’s previous big win in a poker tournament was only $ 3 803, which is a huge leap to $ 1, 938, 118. The Five Diamond World Poker Classic event had 791 entries, making it the biggest main event in the history of the WPT. Somehow Romero managed to best 791 other players before arriving at the final table with a considerable chip lead. Taking into account his chip lead, Romero was in an ideal position and was never really in any deep water at the final table.
Romero faced some well-known professional poker players at the final table, including the likes of Taylor Paur, Chris Klodnicki, Igor Yaroshevskyy, Justin Bonomo, and Alex Condon. Initial action at the final table was slow with the first form of confrontation only taking place on the 42nd hand. The final hand proved to be an exciting outcome between Romero and Ryan Tosoc. Tosoc went all in for $ 1. 975 and had pocket fives while Romero had pocket Kings. The cards on the table were dealt: Ace of Hearts, Jack of Diamonds, Nine of Clubs, Four of Spades, and Six of Clubs. The result ended with Romero winning the pot and Tosoc finishing second while earning $ 1, 124 Million.
